Academy 14218: Battleship Bismarck

Academy 14218 German Battleship Bismarck 1/800 Scale Plastic Model Kit
Academy 14218—Bismarck in 1/800 scale, ideal for a compact WWII German capital-ship build.

KMS Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Launched in February 1939, she and her sister Tirpitz were the largest battleships Germany completed. Her combat career was brief but famous, ending when she was scuttled on 27 May 1941 in the North Atlantic after a determined Royal Navy pursuit.

Kit notes (from the manufacturer listing): the hull is molded in red, other parts in grey, and no decals are included—a nice fit for modelers who like painting markings by hand or pairing the kit with aftermarket sheets.

Academy 14219: Battleship Tirpitz

Academy 14219 German Battleship Tirpitz 1/800 Scale Plastic Model Kit
Academy 14219—Tirpitz in 1/800 scale, the sister ship that tied down Allied resources in northern waters.

KMS Tirpitz was the second Bismarck-class battleship. Launched 1 April 1939 and commissioned 25 February 1941, she carried a main battery of eight 15-inch guns in four twin turrets. Her wartime service is often summarized as a fleet-in-being threat in Norwegian waters: she famously joined Scharnhorst in bombarding Spitsbergen in September 1943—the only time she used her main battery offensively—before repeated Allied attacks culminated in RAF Tallboy strikes on 12 November 1944.

Kit notes (from the manufacturer listing): red hull, grey parts, and no decals included—the same practical molding approach as the Bismarck boxing.
