About the Kit
Italeri was founded in the early 1960s by enthusiasts who wanted better aircraft and military vehicle models than were available at the time. That passion drove them to research and produce the kits modelers wanted, and Italeri grew into a leading name in the hobby. This C-119K kit is new and in its original factory packaging. Listing images are stock pictures from the manufacturer or distributor. Assembly and painting are required.

The Fairchild C-119 and the AC-119K "Stinger"
The heavy transport Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar was adapted by the US Air Force into a "flying gunship" for night missions in Vietnam. These aircraft targeted Vietcong supply lines and troop concentrations. The AC-119K Stinger was especially effective against trucks, armed with two 20 mm guns and four 7.62 mm mini-guns. A related version, the AC-119G, carried lighter armament. To allow takeoffs from short runways when fully loaded with ammunition, two additional jet engines were mounted on the Stinger. As the more capable AC-130H entered service, AC-119s were gradually transferred to the South Vietnamese Air Force, which operated them until the fall of Saigon.
