Neptun's 1/1250 Lützow in 1944 camouflage and special painting---a distinctive pocket-battleship silhouette in a premium collector finish.

About the Model

Navis-Neptun is known for finely detailed 1/1250 scale metal ship models with accurate silhouettes and carefully rendered fittings. This Lützow model is made of metal alloy with a realistic, historically inspired camouflage paint scheme and markings. It includes:

  • 1/1250 scale finished metal model ship
  • Historically accurate surface details, including armament, stacks, masts, and boats
  • 1944 camouflage with Navis-Neptun special painting (Neptun "T" / "AS" variant)
  • Original box included

Ship models in this scale are small and dimensions are proportional to those of the real ship. The model will be well packed for shipment, but masts and gun barrels are very fine and may need gentle adjustment after arrival.

Historical Context: Lützow and the Deutschland Class

The ship that became Lützow began life as Deutschland, lead unit of the so-called pocket battleships---officially Panzerschiffe, later reclassified as heavy cruisers. Designed under treaty limits, the class combined six 28 cm (11-inch) guns with long range and high speed, intended for commerce raiding and fleet operations that could outrun heavier opponents.

Renamed Lützow in 1940 (when the name Deutschland was reassigned and the original Lützow hull went to the Soviet Union), she spent much of the war in the Baltic, supporting German operations against Soviet forces and serving as a fleet asset in confined northern waters. By 1944 the ship was a veteran unit with a war record far removed from her prewar raider image---a useful date for modelers who want a late-war Baltic appearance rather than an interwar or early-Atlantic scheme.

Collectors often display Lützow alongside sisters Admiral Scheer and the lost Admiral Graf Spee, or pair her with Baltic escorts and lighter units to show how Germany employed surviving capital ships as the war turned against the Kriegsmarine's surface fleet.

Why the Camouflage & Special Painting Finish Matters

Late-war German warships in northern theaters often carried disruptive camouflage meant to break up outline against coastlines, smoke, and low Baltic light. On a 1/1250 model, that pattern brings out the class's unique clipper bow, stepped superstructure, and prominent funnel arrangement. Neptun "T" camouflage variants with special painting offer a display-ready alternative to standard gray finishes---and pair well with other camouflaged Kriegsmarine subjects such as the Neptun T1032 Admiral Hipper for a coordinated late-war shelf.

Collector Notes

This item is a finished display model (not a plastic assembly kit). Masts and gun barrels on metal ship models are fragile and may require careful straightening before display.
