The Macchi C.205 Veltro (Italian for "Greyhound") was one of the most formidable Italian fighter aircraft of World War II. Developed as an evolution of the earlier C.202 Folgore, the Veltro entered service in February 1943 and quickly proved its worth in the skies over the Mediterranean[2].

The Veltro saw action with the Regia Aeronautica, defending Italy against Allied air raids and escorting convoys in the Mediterranean theater. Despite its impressive capabilities, only about 177 Veltros were built due to wartime production difficulties[2][4].
