The Apollo–Soyuz Test Project (ASTP), launched in July 1975, marked the first international human spaceflight mission. An American Apollo spacecraft and a Soviet Soyuz capsule successfully docked in Earth orbit, allowing astronauts and cosmonauts to transfer between vehicles, conduct joint experiments, and demonstrate cooperation at the height of Cold War tensions.
The mission represented a major thaw in U.S.–Soviet relations after decades of rivalry in space.
