Back in Stock: Tamiya 1/350 British Battleship HMS Prince of Wales
The Tamiya 78011 British Battleship HMS Prince of Wales in 1/350 scale is back in stock! This impressive kit recreates one of the Royal Navy’s most distinguished and historically significant capital ships, combining Tamiya’s precision engineering with the grandeur of British naval design.
Historical context: HMS Prince of Wales was a King George V–class battleship commissioned in 1941. She quickly earned a place in naval history by taking part in the Battle of the Denmark Strait, where she and HMS Hood engaged the German battleship Bismarck. Although Prince of Wales was forced to withdraw after sustaining damage, her accurate fire contributed to the eventual destruction of Bismarck days later. The ship also carried Prime Minister Winston Churchill to meet President Franklin D. Roosevelt in August 1941 for the signing of the Atlantic Charter — a cornerstone of Allied unity. Later that same year, she was deployed to the Pacific as part of Force Z, where she was sunk off the coast of Malaya in December 1941, marking a turning point in naval warfare as air power supplanted the dominance of the battleship.
