Das Werk Item Number DW72001 is a highly detailed 1:72 scale model, representing the first U9 class submarine ever made in plastic with precise shapes, dimensions, and intricate surface details, including approximately 7,000 rivets. It features optional sail railings, open or closed hatches and torpedo doors, name plaques for all four ships in this class, optional upper rudders, and a positionable exhaust stack. The model is 804mm long, 83mm in beam, and 150mm in height, with 164 parts and includes turnbuckles for advanced modelers and a display stand. The SM U9 (Seiner Majestät U-Boot) was a petroleum-electric submarine of the German Imperial Navy during WWI, measuring 57.38 m in length, 6.00 m in width, with a draft of 3.13 m, and displacing 493 tons above and 611 tons underwater. It could dive to 50 m in 50–90 seconds and was powered by 1000 HP petroleum engines on the surface and 1160 HP electric motors submerged, reaching speeds of 14.2 knots above water and 8.1 knots below, with six torpedoes launched from two bow and two stern tubes. Commissioned in July 1908 and launched in February 1910, U9 gained fame when it sank three British armored cruisers—HMS Aboukir, HMS Hogue, and HMS Cressy—on September 22, 1914, and the HMS Hawke on October 15 under Kapitänleutnant Otto Weddigen, later earning the honor of carrying an Iron Cross on its tower. Completing seven combat cruises, U9 sank five warships totaling 44,173 tons and 13 merchant ships with 8,636 GRT, achieving more warship sinkings than any other boat in WWI, before being delivered to Great Britain on November 26, 1918, and scrapped in Morecambe, Lancashire, in 1919.
