The German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elefant model is a 1/48 scale assembly kit with extensive detail, thanks to the research from Tamiya's designers for the 1/35 scale version. The development of the full-size Elefant is notable, as its chassis was a Porsche design for the Tiger I competition that was not chosen, but the 100 already-ready chassis were ordered by Hitler in 1942 to be converted into the Elefant; about 90 were built by May 1943. Equipped with armor up to 200mm thick and a powerful long-caliber 8.8cm gun, it was a formidable piece of equipment that served German troops until the end of WWII. The model has a length of 172mm and width of 71mm, capturing the form of the Elefant in detail, including the 8.8cm Pak 43 L/71 gun. The large, boxy superstructure is authentically recreated with a parts breakdown based on the real thing's jigsaw-type plate joints. It features assembly-type tracks with single-piece straight sections, and includes weights for installation in the hull to give it an authentically heavy feel. The kit also includes one figure to depict a commander in the cupola surveying the scene and one marking option for a 653rd Heavy Anti-Tank Battalion Elefant on the Italian Front in 1944.
