This 1/72 scale plastic model kit faithfully recreates the state-of-the-art F-35C Lightning II, offering a manageable and display-friendly size while inheriting many of the highly detailed features from Tamiya’s 1/48 scale version. Developed with extensive research on the real aircraft, this kit captures the carrier-based variant of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II with remarkable accuracy and is positioned to be the definitive 1/72 scale representation of the aircraft. The F-35C is designed specifically for catapult-assisted takeoff and arrested landings on aircraft carriers, and it differs from the F-35A with larger foldable wings, bigger control surfaces for better low-speed handling, strengthened landing gear, a twin-wheel nose gear, and a more robust tailhook for carrier arrestor cables. These design features allow for lower landing speeds while increasing range and payload capacity. The model includes newly molded parts for the reinforced nose and main landing gear, a realistically detailed landing gear bay with ribs and piping, and fine molded representations of Radar Absorbent Material (RAM) across the fuselage. Builders can choose between extended or folded wingtip configurations. Other accurately recreated features include the Y-shaped stealth air intake duct, cockpit, landing gear bays, Martin-Baker US16E ejection seat, one-piece engine nozzle, lower fuselage gun pod (optional with RCS enhancers), and Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) fairing under the nose using clear parts.
