The P-47 was a big (7 ton) and very powerful high-altitude fighter, commonly called 'the Jug'. The project started in 1939 and deliveries began in late 1942, with a total of 15,683 built. The P-47 was designed as an interceptor, but later proved to be an outstanding combat plane in both bomber escort and ground attack duty. Its structural strength and massive radial engine could withstand damage better than other aircraft. The P-47D was the major production version, with about 12,600 built. Powered by a water-injected version of the 2,000 hp R-2800 engine, it had a top speed of 433 mph at 30,000 feet. P-47 models prior to the D-25 became known as 'Razorbacks'. This 1/24 scale plastic model aircraft kit features a detailed fuselage and wing with accurate design, a highly detailed engine, a finely detailed cockpit, grooved rubber tires, photo-etched parts, and a variety of ordnance. Kit includes 19 sprues plus cowling and tires. Model measures approximately 462.3 mm (18.20 in) in length with a 545.2 mm (21.46 in) wingspan.
