The USS Hornet (CV-8) played a pivotal role in World War II. Most famously, she launched the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo in April 1942—a bold mission that boosted American morale in the wake of Pearl Harbor. Later that year, the Hornet participated in the Battle of Midway and served valiantly in the South Pacific. Tragically, she was sunk during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in October 1942, but not before leaving a powerful legacy of determination and sacrifice.
