Tamiya Heavy Tank Destroyer 'Elephant' 1/48 Scale Model Kit

New Arrival: Tamiya 1/48 German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elefant

We’re pleased to announce the arrival of a highly requested addition to Tamiya’s outstanding 1/48 military miniatures series — the Tamiya 1/48 German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elefant. This kit brings one of the most formidable tank destroyers of World War II to the workbench with Tamiya’s signature precision engineering and crisp detail.

About the Elefant:
Originally deployed as the Ferdinand during the Battle of Kursk in 1943, this heavy tank destroyer was built on the chassis of the cancelled Porsche Tiger design. Armed with the powerful 88mm Pak 43/2 gun, it was capable of knocking out enemy armor at extreme ranges. After early shortcomings — notably the lack of a bow machine gun and mechanical reliability issues — surviving Ferdinands were upgraded and redesignated as Elefants in 1944, receiving additional armor and defensive armament.

The Elefant saw action in multiple theaters, including Italy and the Eastern Front, and although produced in small numbers, it earned a reputation as one of the most lethal long-range tank destroyers of the war.

About the Tamiya kit:
Tamiya brings the Elefant to 1/48 scale with carefully molded surface texture, detailed suspension, and excellent overall proportions. This kit is designed for builders who enjoy the balance of detail and manageable size offered by the 1/48 series — ideal for dioramas or stand-alone display.

Kit highlights:

  • Accurate upper and lower hull molding with weld seams and armor texture.
  • Realistic representation of the 88mm main gun.
  • Clear parts for vision blocks and periscopes.
  • Optional accessories for added realism.
  • Perfect companion to Tamiya’s growing range of 1/48 armored vehicles.
